The condition of Huma Akram, wife of former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram, continued to remain critical on Thursday, 48 hours after she was admitted to the Apollo Hospital in Chennai.
"Doctors haven't been able to detect any kind of progress. She continues to remain in the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) with doctors constantly providing her intensive medical attention. Doctors had set a 72-hour deadline for a turnaround. However, there has been no improvement," hospital sources had told news agency DNA.
Huma was rushed to Apollo after she developed complications while being airlifted to Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Hospital from Lahore on Tuesday. The aircraft had made a stop at the Chennai airport for a scheduled refuelling. Acting on the advice of the doctors onboard the air ambulance, Huma was rushed to Apollo. She was reported to have suffered a heart attack and doctors did not want to take the risk of flying her further. The pilot spoke to the Indian airport authorities, who in turn, arranged for temporary visas and an ambulance.
With neither Akram nor medical attendants updating the media, speculation is rife that she is suffering from either a brain tumour or renal failure.
